Postdoc in Stem Cell Laboratory

Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen CLINTEC

Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Stem Cell Laboratory at the Fertility Unit, NOVUM

The academic center for Obstetrics and Gynecology is responsible for education and research within this field. The unit gives classes for medical students and provides also research and post graduate education for PhD students as well as for physicians and midwifes.

Presently 36 different professionals are employed. The unit has several experimental laboratories; IVF, stem cell biology and advanced ultrasound technique.

Research and research education are focused on women health, pregnancy and pregnancy complications, fetal physiology, reproductive stem cell biology, infertility, fertility preservation, vascular physiology, fetal regenerative medicine, cervical cancer and several other topics.

Description of research group and project

We are searching for a scientist with experience in stem cell biology and cultures, to a project aiming at clinical implications of human embryonic stem cells (hESC). It includes clinical grade feeder free cultures and optimizing differentiation of the cells, and their characterization. The main aim is to differentiate retinal pigment epithelial cells for a functional animal study and for a clinical trial. The quality assurance and communication with the authorities will be an important part of the work.

Qualifications
1.A PhD from an appropriate discipline, such as biomedical research, biotechnology or medicine
2.Experience from human embryonic stem cell cultures is desirable
3.Cell culture skills

A person is eligible for a postdoc position if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than five years before the last date of employment as postdoc.
