Biology of Leukaemia-propagating Stem/Progenitor Cells in Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML).

A 3 year Medical Research Council funded postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Professor Paresh Vyas http://www.mhu.mrc.ac.uk/people/p.vyas.html, based within the MRC Molecular Haematology Unit (MHU) at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Oxford. This position will especially suit candidates interested in haemopoiesis, leukaemogenesis and understanding how key transcriptional and signalling regulators modulate cell fate.

The project involves dissecting the genetic/epigenetic pathways that perturb haemopoietic stem/progenitor function leading to transformation and tumour propagation in Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. It combines work on primary cells, state-of-the-art molecular and cellular techniques including FACS-sorting for rare cell populations, genomic analyses using high-throughput sequencing and functional assays both in vivo and in vitro. In particular, it will focus on function of newly identified genetic events involved in leukaemogenesis.

You will hold a PhD in a relevant area and have previous experience in haemopoiesis, molecular and cellular biology, tissue culture, in vivo models and flow cytometry. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skills to plan experimental bench-work and the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently when required.
