Research Associate Developing Thermodynamic Probes to study Two-Dimensional Electron Systems
University of Cambridge -Department of Physics
Limit of tenure: three years
As part of a new Leverhulme Trust-funded grant a three-year postdoctoral Research Associate position is available for an experimentalist. This position, based in the Semiconductor Physics group at the Cavendish Laboratory of the University of Cambridge, will involve a close collaboration with experimentalists at the University College London (UCL) and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
The researcher should have, or expect to gain soon, a PhD in physics or a related discipline. You will design and fabricate samples with capable of probing quantities such as the thermopower, compressibility and susceptibility of strongly-interacting two-dimensional electron systems in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures and measure them in a dilution refrigerator. You will need to analyse and interpret the results and design new devices. Experience in one or more of the following would be an advantage: III-V semiconductor processing, transport measurements in a dilution refrigerator, and the physics of interacting systems.
The Semiconductor Physics Group is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories for molecular-beam epitaxy, semiconductor device fabrication, cryogenics and transport measurements down to 20 mK.
For further details of the post please visit our website, http://www.sp.phy.cam.ac.uk. Informal enquires may be addressed to Prof D A Ritchie (dar11@cam.ac.uk).
Completed applications, including a curriculum vitae, the names and contact details of two referees and parts I and III of a CHRIS/6 cover sheet (see http://www.admin.cam.ac.ul/offices/hr/Foms/chris6/ ) should be addressed to: The secretary, Semiconductor Physics Group, The Cavendish Laboratory, J J Thomson Avenue, Cambridge CB3 OHE, UK.
