Post-Doctoral Fellowships Weld modeling High Strain Rate Structural Engineering 2+1 years Fixed Term | Full Time | $77k +15.4% superannuation Institute of Materials Engineering About ANSTO ANSTO is the Australian national organisation for nuclear research and development. We focus on undertaking leading edge research, delivering innovative scientific services and specialised advice to government, industry, academia and other research organisations. About the Institute of Materials Engineering (IME) IME is a major centre of Materials Engineering expertise in Australia. It’s mission is to Develop, manufacture, characterise, model and ultimately, utilise Nuclear Materials in support of the Advanced Nuclear Fuel cycle and next generation Nuclear Power systems. About the positions The primary objective of an ANSTO Post-Doctoral Research Fellow is to perform research that contributes to ANSTO Projects. Weld Modeling The main area of activity for this fellowship will be in the development and extension of models of welds in structural materials. The work will continue collaborations in both manufacturing and nuclear power industries, which has resulted in a significant improvement in the understanding of the development of residual stresses in welded components. The position holder will contribute to the further development of these models as part of national and international research programmes within IME’s world renowned weld modelling research team. High Strain Rate Structural Engineering The work involves high speed impact modelling of structures and materials the majority of which is directed towards activities associated with the Defence Materials Technology Centre (DMTC), a Federal Government supported cooperative research programme involving Australian industry, academia and government research organisations. Duties and responsibilities • Take research ideas through to conclusion by looking at solutions, investigating alternatives and selecting preferred options with the aim of producing scientific outputs and contributing to planned project outcomes. • Publish outcomes of the research in high quality academic journals. • Initiate and conduct scientific research relevant to ANSTO projects by seizing opportunities for innovation and creativity in laboratory, field or computational tool development. Skills and Experience • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills • Highly developed written communication skills with ability to produce written work suitable for publication in high quality refereed journals. • Advanced computer skills including experience in the use of computer modeling of structural materials.
