Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the Quantum Transport of Magnetic Molecules
Department of Materials, Parks Road, Oxford
Grade 7: £32,817 - £40,322 p.a.
This 2-year research post will focus on exploring the quantum transport properties of single molecules. Your efforts will concentrate on the creation of nanodevices where a molecular magnetic system is included into a graphene junction. You will create and help characterise these materials, with the aim of establishing novel synthetic routes to magnetic systems with exotic electronic properties. This will address the following research challenges: 1. Can we create new magnetic systems where all spin valve components are included in a single molecule? 2. What are the synthetic routes to structural and functional variability for magnetic spintronic devices? 3. What are the structure-property relations in such systems? The postholder will be responsible for managing the group research into molecular spintronic device, including the electronic and magnetic characterisation of single-molecule electronic devices, and ultra-low- temperature measurements. The successful applicant will hold a PhD (or be near completion) in physics or a related field, and have demonstrable knowledge of single molecule devices or electronic nanodevice characterisation, and at least some of: nanofabrication for electronics, carbon nanotube/graphene electronics, single point contacts, SQUIDS, quantum dots, molecular electronics or spintronics. Expertise in molecular magnetic materials is an advantage, together with experience in magnetic measurements; coordination chemistry; compounds characterisation methods. You will be in an extremely stimulating environment, with the chance to manage your own academic research. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication and present research proposals and results are an important asset. All applications must be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and a Supporting Statement as part of your application. Please do not attach any manuscripts, papers, transcripts, mark sheets or certificates as these will not be considered as part of your application. The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 20 July 2020. Interviews are scheduled to take place on 5 August 2020 and you must be available on this date.
