Job description
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed-term 12 month contract position as a Postdoctoral Researcher with the School of Engineering, National University of Ireland, Galway. The Informatics Research Unit for Sustainable Engineering (IRUSE) is a highly dynamic, multicultural research cluster performing research on energy efficiency in buildings leveraging advances in information and communication technologies. IRUSE has a strong collaboration with leading industry and academic institutions across Europe and around the world. We perform research in the specific areas of:
• Energy Simulation (both whole building and reduced order modelling);
• Building Information Modelling (BIM);
• Systems integration and optimisation for energy efficiency in buildings;
• Innovative instrumentation in buildings including wireless sensor networks;
• Stakeholder-driven visualisation of building performance data.
The domain-specific goal of the project is to develop solutions for the future smart-buildings that operate in energy efficient and user-friendly basis while reducing its maintenance costs. The project it will be carried out in collaboration with a multi-national industrial partner, leader in integrated building systems domain.
Job Description:
Assist in the development of BIM and high-fidelity building energy performance simulation models.
1. Perform research in the field of energy modelling, analysis and fault detection in buildings;
2. Supervise/Assist PhD candidates in the field of energy modelling and simulation of buildings;
3. Provide organizational support in terms of project administration and finance;
4. Develop necessary project documentation and reporting;
5. Development of future research proposals including but not exclusive to EU FP7.
A relevant track record and a deep understanding of building physics modelling, simulation and control is essential.
Essential Skills:
1. A doctoral degree in mechanical or systems engineering, or a Masters degree with a minimum of 2 years of industrial or academic experience related to thermodynamical modelling or building energy simulation modelling is required.
2. Experience in thermodynamical modelling is required. Building energy simulation modelling or HVAC equipment performance modelling is preferred.
3. Familiarity with building management systems is desirable.
4. Exceptional communication skills, demonstrated commitment to deliver results, adaptability and the ability to work in a teaming environment.
5. Experience with EnergyPlus or TRNSYS is required. Experience with Modelica/Dymola or Matlab/Simulink is a plus.
Salary scale: €38,286.00 per annum (Public sector pay policy rules in relation to new entrants will apply)
