Graphene, a single atomic layer of carbon, has through its extraordinary electronic, mechanical, and optical properties potential to bring along novel biological and biomedical applications. While only few advances has been made to utilize graphene in this field, there is many opportunities and expectations for application with special focus on bio-sensing.

The Graphene Research Lab under Prof. Barbaros Özyilmaz is seeking experienced candidates to fill two fulltime post-doctoral positions in studying biological applications of graphene. Our focus is mainly on exploring the cell-substrate interactions of cells on graphene substrates and the possibilities of using graphene as a novel sensor of these interactions. This involves the design and fabrication of a motion and pressure sensor for monitoring epithelial cells mechanotransductions. Among other projects, we also seek to develop an understanding and control of the osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells on graphene.

The projects are carried out through cross-faculty collaborations with Dept. of Pharmacy (Prof. Giorgia Pastorin) and Dept. of Biological Sciences and Mechanobiology Institute (Prof. Paul Matsudaira). Furthermore we have strong international collaboration with partners from Chemistry (Prof. Byung Hee Hong) and Engineering (Prof. Jong-Huyn Ahn) of SKKU, Korea.

Requirements
We are seeking two candidates with each their area of expertise. The candidate must possess a PhD-degree and be experienced in either developing devices for biological applications or working with CVD graphene.
Preferably the candidate has experience in cell culturing and bioimaging techniques and is familiar with standard MEMS fabrication. These are skills the candidate will learn in any case.

The ideal candidate will have a proactive personality, generating original ideas, and capable of working independently. Good communication skills and fluency in English are key ingredients for successful integration in our team.
