Job Description
The Tissue Mechanics Laboratory (TML) at the University of Connecticut has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow position to pursue research in the fields of heart valve mechanics and mechanobiology. The projects in TML are funded by NIH and American Heart Association (AHA) to study the biomechanics in minimally invasive aortic and mitral valve intervention. The candidate has opportunities to collaborate with internationally renowned cardiologists and cardiac surgeons at Yale, Columbia University Medical Center and the Hartford Hospital, to develop population-based and patient-specific biomechanical models to evaluate prosthetic valve function. The appointment will be a full-time for a 12-month period, with annual renewal contingent upon performance. Competitive salary and excellent benefits packages will be offered based on level of experience. The University of Connecticut (UConn) is an internationally recognized public research institution located in a beautiful area of the New England, with a moderate cost of living and proximate to major cultural, recreational and urban centers of the Northeast. The University community affords residents a rich diversity of cultural, athletic, artistic and historic experiences. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Ideal applicants should have a PhD degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related fields. Candidates should have a background in at least one of the following: 1) soft tissue biomechanical testing, 2) constitutive modeling of soft tissue nonlinear, anisotropic material properties, and 3) finite element or computational fluid dynamics simulations of cardiovascular system functions. Prior experience with computational software including Abaqus, Ansys, STAR-CCM+, Avizo, Isight, Nessus, and Heeds is preferred. Knowledge of medical device design and optimization is a plus. Interested candidate should send a cover letter, CV, two relevant publications and contact information of three references in a single PDF file electronically to Dr. Wei Sun at weisun@engr.uconn.edu.
