job description
Position 1: A post-doctoral fellow position is available on November 1, 2011 in the area of materials for electrochemical energy storage. The focus will be on nanostructured supercapacitors and batteries, utilizing techniques such as atomic layer deposition (ALD) and/or TEM. Both chemists and materials scientists are encouraged to apply. This work is part of a Canada-wide energy storage program, and involves multiple government laboratory partners. Hence good collaboration skills and communication are essential. Prior publications in high-impact factor journals will be taken as an indicator of future success. The hired individual will ultimately take on a scientific leadership role within the group, helping to develop new research directions and supervising graduate students.
Position 2: A post-doctoral fellow position is on Nov 1, 2011 in the area of synthesis and testing of nanomaterials for oxygen reduction reactions, with a focus on atomic layer deposition (ALD) and/or TEM. This basic scientific research will be on the microstructure-properties relations in thin films and/or nano-scale powders. This work is part of the national fuel cell program and involves multiple institutional and industrial partners. Hence good collaboration skills and communication are essential. A successful candidate must have demonstrated expertise in both synthesis and in electrochemistry. Experience with ALD is highly desired and may trump a direct lack of electrochemistry skills. The hired individual will ultimately take on a scientific leadership role within the group, helping to develop new research directions and supervising graduate students.
Our facilities include an extensive electrochemistry laboratory, a suite of catalyst testing equipment, volumetric and gravimetric hydrogen sorption systems, high-pressure DSC and DSC/TGA, combinatorial sputter and evaporation thin films deposition, and inert atmosphere powder processing. There is also institutional access to several advanced TEM’s and sample prep, a state-of-the-art UHV surface analysis center, and XRD. We are also in the process of purchasing a dedicated ALD for the laboratory, in addition to the existing general user system at NINT.+
+D.M. is also affiliated with the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT) NRC located in Edmonton AB.
