Requisition number: Postdoctoral Research Position in Intestinal Immunity / Immunopathology
job description
In the Immunopathology Research Group, Division of Experimental Pathology, University of Bern, CH-3010 Bern, Switzerland, a
Postdoctoral Research Position in Intestinal Immunity / Immunopathology
will become available by December 1, 2011 (exact date: negotiable) for 3 years to work on the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in resolving intestinal inflammation.
Our laboratory has a long-standing experience in the involvement of intraepithelial lymphocytes and macrophages in intestinal immunity, in particular, in the development of inflammatory disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.
The present project is focused on the cellular and molecular events that lead to a resolution of an inflammatory reaction in the intestinal mucosa. To this end, several mouse models of intestinal inflammation, but also transient, and permanent colonization of the intestinal lumen of germ-free mice with commensal and pathogenic bacteria will be used.
The successful applicant is expected to have experience in cell and molecular biology and to have a strong background in immunology. Experience in flow cytometry, molecular biology and in vivo experiments with mice would be an advantage.
The Department of Pathology at the University of Bern offers very attractive state-of-the art facilities in immunology, and pathology, including access to core facilities for flow cytometry, and confocal microscopy, and access to a germ-free and gnotobiotic mouse facility.
The present project is salaried by a Swiss National Science Foundation Sinergia grant and will be carried out in close collaboration with the research groups of Prof. Daniela Finke (University of Basel), Prof. Andrew MacPherson (University Hospital, Bern), and Prof. Wolf-Dieter Hardt (ETH Zurich).
Applicants with a PhD or MD/PhD degree with experience in cellular immunology, molecular biology and animal experimentation, documented by a corresponding list of publications are kindly asked to submit by e-mail their application together with a curriculum vitae, a list of publications and the names and contacts of three possible referees in a single pdf file at the latest by September 30, 2011 to: ursula.yela@pathology.unibe.ch.
