job description

Postdoctoral Research Fellow (CDF)
(3 Year Post)

Identification of novel regulators of senescence

MRC Band 4 Salary £30,124- £35,860 pa inclusive
London W12

Applications are invited for a 3-year postdoctoral research position within the Cell Proliferation Group at the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre in London. We are looking for a highly motivated post-doc interested in joining our friendly and international team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on one of several open projects involving the identification and characterization of novel senescence regulators by combining genetic screenings and expression profiles of inducible systems of senescence.

Our lab has previously take advantage of similar approaches to identify a self-amplifying network involving the chemokine receptor CXCR2 and its ligands, such as IL-8, in senescence reinforcement (Acosta et al. 2008 Cell). Recently we demonstrated how senescence can limit the efficiency of reprogramming to induced pluripotent stem cells (Banito et al. 2009 Genes Dev). We have also a long-standing interest on the INK4a/ARF and have identified different epigenetic mechanisms involved in its regulation, including Polycomb repressive complexes (Gil et al. 2004 Nat. Cell Biol), histone demethylases (Barradas et al. 2009 Genes Dev) and non-coding RNAs (Yap et al. 2010 Mol Cell).

Candidates should be highly motivated, committed and have clear career goals. Experience in senescence, cancer research or genetic screens would be useful, but is not essential. A strong background in molecular and cellular biology is required. Experience working with primary cells, familiarity with retroviral and lentiviral systems, previous work with RNAi or with high content microscopy systems such as InCell 100 would be highly valued. All applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in life sciences or equivalent experience and at least one first-author publication published or in press.

The Clinical Sciences Centre, which is directly funded by the Medical Research Council, is associated with Imperial College. The CSC and Imperial College provide excellent core facilities and support structures, including automated microscopy systems, next generation sequence and proteomics. The Cell Proliferation Group is part of the Epigenetics, Development and Cancer Section and offers interactions with groups studying cell cycle, cancer, and chromatin organization.

Applications are handled by the RCUK Shared Services Centre; for further details about this post and to apply please visit our job board at https://ext.ssc.rcuk.ac.uk and complete an online application form. If you are unable to apply online please contact us on 01793 867003 quoting IRC27911.
