Recent new research funds from a Canada Research Chair position and Canadian Institutes of Health Research grants have become available for a post-doctoral position at McMaster University in the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology/Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact (HEI, formerly Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics), to lead perinatal meta-analyses including advanced techniques in meta-analysis and network meta-analysis to improve the health of women and infants.

The successful candidate will be co-supervised in a vibrant, collaborative environment by Dr. Sarah McDonald, holder of the prestigious Canada Research Chair, a perinatal clinical epidemiologist and high risk obstetrician, and Dr. Joseph Beyene, an academic biostatistician and former Co-Convenor of the Cochrane Statistical Methods Group (SMG). Work will involve application of advanced meta-analytic methods including both conventional and network meta-analysis, examining both maternal and infant outcomes. Opportunities include collaborations with teams in other departments, centres, provinces and internationally. McMaster University, home to the Cochrane Canada Centre and the GRADE approach, is a world-leader in Knowledge Synthesis.

We are seeking highly motivated applicants who have a Ph.D. in (Bio)Statistics, Clinical Epidemiology, or a very closely-related field. The applicant should be enthusiastic, motivated, and be able to work as part of a team as well as independently. Experience in research in medicine, particularly in obstetrics or neonatology is an asset.

Primary responsibilities involve designing and carrying out cohort studies and complimentary meta-analyses and network meta-analyses in perinatology, analyzing data using statistical packages (e.g., R, SAS, WinBUGS/JAGS), co-authoring and submitting manuscripts. Other opportunities include gaining experience writing research grants and student supervision. The position will be tailored to the applicant’s career goals.

The appointment will be for 1-3 years dependent on the candidate’s goals, qualifications, fit and productivity. Salary is commensurate with qualifications. McMaster University is a recognized and internationally ranked research and educational institution, and HEI is particularly renowned with a vibrant series of rounds and other educational opportunities.
