You will participate in a project funded by the European Research Council (ERC Advanced Grant, REFINE) to study the relationships between phenotypic plasticity and external validity of animal experiments using mice as model animals. Recent evidence indicates that laboratory animal research is based on a flawed concept of standardization, leading to poor reproducibility and spurious results. You will perform computer simulations based on real data to study how systematic variation of study populations affects test sensitivity and reproducibility. The project team includes another postdoc and a PhD student who generate real data on phenotypic plasticity of behaviour in laboratory mice for simulation, and test model predictions derived from computer simulations. Consequently, expertise in computational biology or bioinformatics and applied statistics would be a plus.
